Right in the Heart of Suffolk, take a picnic, sit by The River Gipping, watch the wildfowl, walk the banks of the river either way or walk around the lake. It really is a lovely spot

A holiday haven mainly built in the 1920's this is a lovely area for relaxation or for recreational facilites. Here we have a picturesque golf course, the lake with much boating activity, splendid walks through boardwalks around the marshes or a stroll to the sea. There is of course the 'working' win...

From Chelmondiston down the hill of the lane to the carpark for a real treat. Bury St Edmunds Abbey Gardens
(

(Preview)
40 years ago I lived near BSE, this was always one park we took the family, personally over the years I think that the gardeners and designers have improved this to Suffolks premier public garden. Words fail me on the beauty and colour that we find here in the late Spring, all Summer and the early part of A...

This is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty [AONB as designated by the UK Government], there are walks galore, on the beach, in the dunes, through the woods bird spotting/watching is probably the best locality in Suffolk. The area is nice anytime of the year but July/August is the best to see the Hea...

Alton Water/Reservoir
(

(Preview)
This is one of Suffolk's great recreation areas. The Anglian Water Authority have done a good job in making this a relaxation/sporting area. There is a footpath and cycle route around the 8 mile perimeter, just a reminder that in prolonged heavy rain there are one or two places that do get quite muddy....

Kings Forest [West Stow]
(Preview)
Some 45 years ago I used to frequent this area of Suffolk with my young family, somehow I used to think it was 'Heaven on Earth', I go back to West Stow Country Park every now again and I haven't changed my mind, it is beautiful, we in Suffolk are so lucky to have all this natural beauty around us

Barham Pits
(Preview)
I find Barham Pits in certain places quite idyllic, this is a beauty spot a handful of miles West of Ipswich. If you can ignore the thunderous traffic from the adjacent A14 Trunk Road and ignore the yucky buildings running alongside the River Gipping then you could be on the Norfolk Broads. The wild lif...

Iken

One place I haven't included in the past and deserves a mention, but as I write the approach to the car park is atrocious with pot holes almost the size of sand traps on a golf course. Still worth the visit though to sit and just look at the Bird activity or to walk to Snape Maltings or St Botolphs Church each...

I haven't been here for about 14 years, so has it changed in that time? I understand there are ponies or horses roaming quite freely and that to park a car is now charged for. Anyone recently been to this beauty spot?

Ipswich Waterfront
(Preview)
This is becoming a very popular area with diners/clubbers and sightseers. The whole of the Wet Dock/Waterfront area has been/is being transformed. There are cafes/bistros/bars/restaurants many with 'al fresco' style seating. Boat trips start and finish here on Thames Barges or a cruise on 'The...
