The general cargo vessel is seen on the left after leaving Ipswich port some 10-12 miles up river where over on the right at the far end is one of the monster container ships, this one the CSCL Europe, these vessels were over two miles away from where I was taking the photos from
With my back to the estuary and looking over the Point I am now looking in the distance at a Medite vessel approaching, then 10 minutes later MSC Catania is approaching the Point at Landguard to be met by two shipping tugs
Just to put this into a little perspective, I am standing on a jetty, the first photo is a panoramic [wide angle lens at 18mm] shot of the Stour Estuary, the vessel you can see in the middle of the pic is the cruise liner having departed Harwich [about where the sun is shining] the distance from her to me is over two miles
The second photo was taken with a zoomed 270mm lens [effectively 418mm] it is necessary to shoot at this distance to get the angles right as leaving Harwich via FXT to the North Sea requires an 'S' course manoeuvre, so this photo is from more than two miles away and the pic is placed into a Nikon programme to zoom and crop
